Press Release

Westcliffe Quarterly Update

Welcome to the first of our quarterly updates about happenings in Westcliffe!  These updates are intended to inform and invite – inform you of what is happening and invite you to participate in any way you would like.  Please feel free to call 783-2282 with any questions or comments, or email us at townmanager@townofwestcliffe.com.

While much of the new year was spent dealing with snow, equipment repairs, and contract renewals, we also had several new and noteworthy things happen.  One of the most exciting was welcoming Gabriel Shanks to our team as our new Town Manager.  Gabriel comes to us with a strong military background in systems operations and project management and currently lives with his wife and children in Wetmore.  We are thrilled to have him.

Also new to the team are Planning Commission members John Van Doren and George Vujnovich. John is serving on the commission, while George is currently serving as an alternate.  We welcome and thank both of them for their involvement.

Keep your eyes out for the new seating and dining areas in Jess Price Park, the Bluff, and the Pocket Park. We have 7 new picnic tables and 1 bench just waiting for warmer weather to install.  Funds for the new tables came from a matching grant from the Upper Arkansas Area Council of Governments.

Another grant-funded improvement is the new AV system at Patterson Town Hall.  The CARES Act Corona Virus Relief Fund funded the purchase and installation of two large monitors, microphones, and speakers in our meeting rooms, allowing us to adhere to safety protocols while doing business.

Last but certainly not least, we are proud to announce the creation and launch of the Westcliffe Business Façade Grant program. We know that the appearance of the commercial and residential buildings in downtown Westcliffe is critical for a vibrant and inviting downtown district.  The Business District Facade Program assists businesses and property owners with making aesthetic improvements to their buildings, such as signs, awnings, painting, landscaping, through matching grants.  For more information on the program and how to apply, please visit our website at townofwestcliffe.colorado.gov.

Thank you!
