Westcliffe Quarterly Update

Westcliffe's Spring Facelift

The past three months have witnessed a mini-facelift for Westcliffe!

The Business Façade Grant program was a huge success, with $25,000 awarded to seven local businesses.  The grants will help pay for numerous improvements, including landscaping, signage, painting, new doors and windows, and plants and benches.  Our thanks to all the businesses who are giving us a fresher look!

Seven new picnic tables and one bench were placed in our parks, including Jess Price Park, Summit Park, and Pocket Park.  The Pocket Park is completed and has been bustling ever since, with visitors playing chess, checkers, connect 4, and tossing bean bags.

The High Altitude Garden Club worked their magic again this year and transformed our planter boxes and barrels into stunning displays of flowers.

We also broke ground on the installation of the first station of the Planet Walk, an interpretive, free exhibit of the Solar System. The walk begins with the Sun in front of Ranchers Roost and then journeys east up Main Street with a station for each planet in our Solar System.

The tennis courts at Hermit Park will be resurfaced this summer.  Once resurfaced, you will be able to use them to play tennis, pickleball, and basketball!

Speaking of parks, we selected DHM Designs to guide us in developing a ten-year "Town of Westcliffe Parks, Recreation, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan."  The plan will define objectives, recommendations, and strategies for our parks and our Main Street streetscape.  We will be soliciting community input at various stages of the planning, so please stay tuned!

Finally, the Town of Westcliffe was also awarded a two-year grant from the American Rescue plan. The grant is to help governments bolster their response to the economic impacts of COVID-19.  We received a little over $78,900 this year and will be awarded a similar amount in 2022.  We are currently waiting on information regarding what specific programs and initiatives we can use the grant money for.

This update is the second of our 2021 quarterly updates about happenings in Westcliffe.  These updates are to inform you of what is happening and invite you to participate in any way you would like.  Please call 783-2282 with any questions or comments, or email us at townmanager@townofwestcliffe.com.
